Coming Up: Grape Escape Train
Enjoy a cocktail hour train ride through Verde Valley!
On Saturday, Verde Canyon Railroad is hosting the Grape Escape Train, a four hour train ride through Verde Valley with a wine tasting on board. It’s a great way to spend an evening and taste local Arizona wines.
The vintage train departs from Clarksdale, just 20 minutes from Sedona. As you sample wine from Pillsbury Wine Company (located in Cottonwood, AZ), you’ll have the chance to enjoy some delicious appetizers as you watch the sun set over the red rocks. Without looming modern cities, the event feels a bit as though you’ve traveled back in time, and the open air cars make sure that you get the full effect of being surrounded by nature.
The return trip occurs after the sun has set, so that you can see the rocks and desert cloaked in midnight blue, lit only by the stars. With luck, you may have a chance to see some native wildlife, like roadrunners or coyotes, as you ride along the tracks. You’ll also pass by ancient Native American dwellings, a historic bridge, and the remnants of old pioneer settlements, creating an enlightening historical picture.
If you’re not interested in a wine tasting, Verde Canyon Railroad hosts a variety of other train rides, like a beer tasting train or their chocolate lovers event. Check their webpage to see what interests you.
